Thomas the Tank Engine

and his friend Duck.

The South Midland is proud of its other funtion: to interest and bring on the younger members of the board.

The surprise arrival of Thomas the Tank Engine in September 2008 – "only for good children" – went down well with junior trainee director and assistant wheel tapper Sophia.

Thomas pulled regular trains for trainee baggage porter Lucy on New Year's Day 2009. Sadly other trainee directors were unable to attend.

Thomas was back on 3 Jan. Here Thomas pulls the new rake of SMR mineral wagons, passing Duck with a coal train.

Thomas was back again on 10 January for Sophia and Blake to see, this time with his own special coach. He says he will come back whenever there is demand from the junior directors.
