Thirty Years On – Grand Re-opening

1979

2009
The Board had set the SMR Engineering dept the goal of a Grand Re-opening of the SMR facilities at Deddington Junction in September 2009 to mark its 30th anniversary. Recent events forced postponement of the work on Hempton shed and the celebrations were eventually held on Boxing Day. Hempton shed is now operational and the formal opening ceremony was performed by Junior Director Lucy ... Ganny lent a hand.

The original 1979 loco power had been serviced and was diagrammed alongside new locos and rolling stock. The first movement was to bring Jimmi's 1984 Mallard off shed.

It then hauled the formative Oxfordshire Pullman or is it to be The Oxon Belle? Answers on an email please.

Junior Director Sophia entered the control area to begin her training; first lesson ... don't touch.

Matti's 1979 Evening Star then hauled an express with seven on, all 1980s style BR stock including restaurant and sleeping cars. Trainee Junior Director Blake watched with interest.

Commemorative mugs were struck for each of the senior directors and the juniors
The same day, the Director for Southern Affairs and Middle Aston Station Master, Matt took the regulator and, despite receiving a severe caution for reversing out of Deddington tunnel without a 'wrong line working' docket from the signal box, was re-appointed from Passed Fireman to Driver.

It is hoped that Director for the Western Approaches and Hook Norton Station Master, Jimmi will report to renew his driver's ticket too in the near future.
