The Grand Refit 2007/8
Before the refit began in 2007, the whole layout looked sad and neglected, virtually untouched since around 1992. So when G'ampa started to retire properly, he began to prepare Deddington Junction and the Barford branch for the next generation.

To start by relaying the track in the tunnel, the branch deck had to be removed.

Then SMR engineers got on with the job of completely lifting, reballasting and relaying all track work.

Some additional wiring was necessary to overcome a few deficiencies in the 1992 scheme.

In the spring of 2008, the long planned Deddington Gas Works was built, made possible by chance with the new Hornby gas works equipment. G'anny's ancestor, John Furniss was posthmously appointed as works manager.
Before the end of the season, there was time to build the long-awaited halt and pagoda-style shelter at Hempton

for which period posters were downloaded from the internet, and resized with Photoshop and printed out on the Epson 2100.

At Easter 2008, Hempton station was ready for passengers. Trainee junior director Sophia – with a little help from G'anny – cut the ribbon to open the branch.
Trains were able to run up the line to the Barford station site but passengers were not allowed to disembark, just enjoy the ride.
