Dawn over Deddington Junction
One day many years later, Mummy Mary said "why not build a train set on the landing for the boys?"
"Oh, what a good idea" Daddy Colin said. "Oh look, here's a plan I made earlier" – the one he'd been doodling during university lectures. The breakfast room was quickly requisitioned as a workshop.
And so it came to pass in 1979 that Daddy built the basis of the SMR's new home and Deddington Junction was born. Junior directors were on hand to advise.

Lots of 2x1 was screwed and bolted together; the legs were levelled to accomodate the sloping floor. It was all topped off with Sundeala board, still available 30 years on.

Mummy, Granna and Baba were there at the grand opening of the basic circuit; single line working was in operation. Jimmi is at the controls (Colin's old Hamond and Morgan) and Matti took the pic on the Rolleiflex.
With long term vision, the second deck to take the branchline was planned from the start and added immediately. Regrettably, no forethought was given to servicing the track in the tunnel! (That proved to be a big problem in 2007.) In 1981 it was thought the line would go to the Bartons, but by 1996 the Board had decided it was to be to Barford.
