Mary's 60th birthday songs

We all sang 'happy birthday Mary' of course, then later the John Burdon would-be-Barber Quartet
sang two ditties:

A Yorkshire lass we all know very well
Degree in French earned at the UCL
Was keen on sport and not averse to work
A tricky task she's never known to shirk

T'was Autumn back in 1962
This swinging chick was quite a sight to view
Caught Colin's eye for better or for worse

We know that he still loves you
Now you have reached
Now you have reached sixty

In the seventies were the years you were a mum
in '73 you came to Deddington
Now editing but still made time to be
of service to your community
And now you run your business from your home
The stories we could tell would fill a tome
If you left Deddington or planned to roam

We'd all be very grumbly
And you're not quite yet a crumbly
Now you have reached
Now you have reached sixty

 Her mother called her Mary
A lovely name thought she
Names not sounding airy fairy
Are not the names for me
We're glad she was so chary
'bout fancy sounding names
of tarty names was wary
Like all those show 'biz dames

(Chorus)
So it was Mary, Mary, plain as any name can be
But with propriety, society may say Marie.
But it is Mary, Mary, long before the fashion changed
And there is something there that sounds so square
It's that grand old name.
